OUR FOUNDATION

Thomas A. Yorie Jr (Yorio) began working with terrazzo and stone at the age of 16, beside his seasoned father, older cousin and family in Syracuse, New York. The family hailed originally from the Lazio region of Italy. During the mid-1970s, Central New York’s economy came to a grinding halt, and he ended up in Pennsylvania. A few years later, the company was established. Yorie Tile & Terrazzo Inc. initially opened its doors for operation in 1976, and eventually became formally incorporated in 1978. Mr. Yorie and his company got their start through repeat account work, ranging from hundreds of food chains all along the eastern seaboard to high-end marble and stone works inside the mansions of suburban New York City.

By the mid-1980s, the company was completing projects with institutions such as the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center (650-Bed Prison), exterior stone slab works at bank buildings in Louisiana and many public schools in Pennsylvania. By the time of Mr. Yorie’s semi-retirement in 2013, his company had completed extensive trade works in at least half of the casinos in Pennsylvania, was executing single-terrazzo and tile projects in excess of a hundred thousand square feet each, and maintained an unsurpassed level of quality and integrity.
